(Refinement)

Course Description:

This course concentrates exclusively on other methods of refinement as a starting point for a refraction.

Note: This is part of a 3-course series: Retinoscopy / Refractometry / Functional Testing. However, courses may be taken in any order. This course does not include materials taught in Retinoscopy.

Open to all levels of ophthalmic personnel.

Topics Covered:

• Starting the refraction from scratch: a fun, easy and objective way.
• Other easy refraction starting points.
• Four easy steps of refinement.
• Proper use of the cross cylinder.
• Other ways to test astigmatism.
• Manifest and refraction starting techniques.
• Balancing techniques, and other selected techniques to assure consistency.
• How to ask questions of the patient during the refractive procedure to get the best results without taking a lot of time, and get the patient to respond the way you want.
