Course Description:
A hands-on course in the fitting and evaluation of contact lenses. Course participants will use instrumentation to fit and evaluate contact lenses. Both proper and improper fittings will be demonstrated with rigid gas permeable lenses and soft lenses.
Note: Although there is no prerequisite for this course, Contact Lenses I (theory) or its equivalent is recommended.
Open to all levels of ophthalmic personnel.
Topics Covered:
- Verification of parameters.
- Pre-fitting evaluation techniques and interviewing of a prospective wearer.
- Objective entrance tests for prospective contact lens wearers.
- Keratometry procedures and techniques.
- Use of the slit-lamp in both rigid and soft lens fittings.
- Demonstration of properly and improperly fitted lenses, and how to remedy.
- Recognition of contact lens problems.
- Fluorescein pattern evaluation.
- Basic in-office modification techniques (time permitting).
